Interactive Touchscreen Instrument
Creative direction, conceptual design, sound design
Stimulant created the world’s first multi-user musical instrument for Microsoft Surface v1 (when it was a table form-factor device). Because I had co-authored the Surface User Experience Guidelines, under contract to Microsoft, I wanted to ensure that our experience followed those best practices as closely as possible. I designed the interface conceptually as well as composed all the music, creating unique assets for each node on a musical grid. The instrument took advantage of Surface’s unique camera-based system to leverage finger orientation as well as touch position.
The instrument was later ported to Windows Phone.
